External Finishes

Here are the details of some of the external finishes we are going to be using on the Potton show barn. Each of these suppliers is featured on our supplier page.

Brickwork

Sahtas Genuine Handmade Facing Bricks

Sahtas Genuine Handmade Facing Bricks

Sahtas say: Produced in the traditional way to ensure that they give the same aesthetic and character found in bricks used in properties built centuries ago, they are the ideal choice for restoration, conservation or new build work, where there is a requirement to blend in with historic surroundings.

We say: These stunning bricks are going to give our new build show barn that old converted look. The barn is going to look like it's always been there which is exactly what we want. Walk into the barn through its aged facade and you'll be met with a fresh, bright and open contemporary interior that surpasses the energy efficient requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Now that's a welcome surprise!

Windows and Joinery

Sunfold

Sunfold windows

Sunfold Sytems

We say: These contemporary windows are just the ticket. They've excellent levels of thermal performance and will contrast the handmade bricks and tiles brilliantly. We need this level of energy performance as the barn is thermally more efficient that the requirement of Code level 4. They will also tie back aesthetically to the rainwater goods and the zincwork being used elsewhere on the roof. This modern fresh contemporary look also provides a gentle hint of what is to come inside...

Window Cills

Window Cills

Window Cills

We say: The window cills perfectly complement the windows and are very sharp and clean. This is going to be in sharp contrast to the aged bricks and roofing. This feature will enhance the appearance of a modern barn conversion.

Roofing

Sahtas Hand Made Roof Tiles

Sahtas Hand Made Roof Tiles

Sahtas say: Sahtas Restoration: A mixture of browns & blacks with a little hint of dark red, the Restoration gives the feel of a weathered reclaimed hand made tile. Perfect for creating that 'period' feel to a new building or to ensure that the refurbishment of an older property doesn't leave it sticking out from its surroundings.

We say: This is perfect as it'll help give the new show barn that converted look. If we used shiny clean crisp materials the barn would look brand new and that's not the look we're going for. Also, these tiles beautifully complement the handmade facing bricks and timber cladding that we're using.

Rainwater Goods

Yeoman Rainguard Guttering and Downpipe

Yeoman Rainguard Guttering and Downpipe

Yeoman Rainguard

We say: These zinc gutters and pipes from Yeoman Rainguard give the ultimate hint of the contemporary workings to our new show barn. We can't wait to see them in place, the colours used elsewhere on the house are going to be reflected in the shiny finish of the pipes making for some beautiful photos.

Weatherboarding

Weatherboarding

We say: The boarding is from locally sourced softwood spruce or pine and will be finished in the same colour as the external joinery i.e. RAL 7040 - window grey. This will complement the windows perfectly whilst providing a softer aesthetic as a result of timber's natural grains and knots.
